FAQs
You Ask. We Answer.
What is CBD?
CBD is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol which is a chemical compound that comes from the Cannabid Sativa Plant better known as a marijuana plant. CBD is the most prominent and promising component found in marijuana. THC may ring bells when heard, CBD is just the second most prevalent non-psychoactive part of the plant. CBD occurs naturally and is used in many products, from edibles to oils.
How Does CBD work in the body?
CBD activates multiple receptors and ion channels. CBD inhibits the reuptake of endogenous neurotransmitters that THC would normally act on. Furthermore, CBD inhibits or enhances the binding of certain G-protein coupled receptors. CBD acts as both a positive and negative allosteric modulator. In which case, CBD is a positive allosteric modulator when it amplifies the body's ability to transmit GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) which is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the Central Nervous System. In turn CBD acts as a negative allosteric modulator of the CB1 receptor to reduce the psychoactive affects caused by THC. This helps direct the body in how to perceive pain and inflammation, response to dealing with anxiety as well as influence balance. CBD creates a feeling of calm and influences relaxation because CBD reacts with receptors in the nervous system to mellow and keep one from being in a heightened fight or flight response.
Benefits of CBD?
CBD is a naturally occurring substance that comes with many benefits some of which are putting CBD at a more popular demand. Strongest scientific evidence points to CBD’s aid in severe cases of childhood epilepsy. The more common benefit of CBD is its aid in anxiety, depression and other related symptoms. Other popular demands for CBD are insomnia, and in study CBD can not only help with falling sleep but staying asleep. CBD can also be used to treat some chronic pain and modulates inflammation. CBD activates PPAR’s (peroxisome proliferator activated receptors) on cancerous cells which has an affect that often induces tumor regression. As the effect of CBD is studied in how it acts on PPAR’s it may open the door to development of treatments dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and other possible functions.
